Manal Zahar graduated at the top of her class at an UNRWA school in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley and had little hope of continuing her education until the Hope Fund made it possible for her to have a full scholarship to Bryn Mawr. After graduating with honors from Bryn Mawr with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in mathematics, she returned to Lebanon to teach school for several years before continuing on to graduate school.
