Dr. Fahim Qubain
Founder of The Hope Fund
Specialist on Middle Eastern Affairs, Retired

Dr. Qubain, the founder of the Hope Fund, was born in the mountain town of Ajlun, Jordan (then called Trans-Jordan. In 1936 he went to the Friends School in Ramallah, Palestine then under the British Mandate. The Friends School was established in the latter part of the 19th cemtiry by the Quakers of Indiana. After graduating in 1942, he migrated to the United States in 1946. He received his BA degree from Guilford College, and a Ph.D degree from the University of Wisconsin in International Relations.
Dr. Qubain spent a year at Yale University directing a research program on the Middle East for the US Department of Defence, after which he moved to Washington where he worked for several years as an independent consultant on Middle East affairs.
Dr. Qubain has written extensively on the Middle East, including several books and more than a hundred of unpublished studies for various organizations. His Books include the The Reconstruction of Iraq (Prager, 1958) , Crisis In Lebanon (The Middle East Institute, 1961), Education and Science In The Arab World (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1979). This study was sponsored and funded by theNational Science Foundation. Dr. Qubain was for sometime associated with the Middle East Institute in Washington, DC, and has written articles in learned journals .
Dr. Qubain has traveled extensively in the Middle East, including Tunisia, Libya, Egypt,Lebanon, Syria Jordan, Israel/Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the other principalities of the Persian Gulf.
Dr. Qubain is now retired, but he and his wife Nancy devote almost all their
time pro bono, to administer the affairs of the Hope Fund since its establishment in 2000. Dr. Qubain is a firm believer in non-violence, in peaceful conflict resolution,and in a just and peaceful resolution of the Palestinian Israeli conflict, where the two people can live together as two states side by side with a shared Jerusalem in peace and harmony and a shining beacon to the world.
